Student Achievement
In addition to academics, students in the Bay-Waveland School District have the opportunity to excel in a variety of music, art, dance, science, ROTC and strong 4A athletic activities. Every school has an art teacher and art classroom, and students begin violin at Waveland Elementary. Choir and theater productions are after school opportunities in elementary and middle school, while the middle and high school students enjoy a federally funded after school enrichment program. The high school has a competitive science quiz bowl team.
District students win art, music and dance competitions and participate in the Mississippi Governor's School, the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Program, Boys and Girls State, Youth Legislature, and other statewide youth programs. The Tiger Pride high school band regularly scores All Superior in state competitions. The Bay High Steppers are the reigning State 4A Grand Champions in Dance and for two consecutive years have been the State 4A Champions in Jazz and Kick. Students also have access to cutting edge vocational education.
